New Trees on Town Council Land – Bringing Majestic Elms Back to Hampshire

New Trees on Town Council Land – Bringing Majestic Elms Back to Hampshire

Exciting changes are happening at Carvers Recreation Ground. The first two of ten new trees have been planted along the path between the Carvers Lane and Southampton Road entrances, marking the beginning of an 'avenue of trees.' These trees are part of the “Carvers Masterplan,” which aims to enhance the facilities and create a more natural, environmentally friendly space for everyone to enjoy.

In total, six disease-resistant elm trees have been planted across the Town Council’s land, with two at Carvers and four in other areas. These efforts are part of the Hampshire Forest Partnership Tree Planting Program, which seeks to restore the iconic elm to our countryside. By planting these resilient trees, we are not only bringing a piece of Hampshire’s heritage back but also supporting biodiversity and tackling climate change.

The elms at Carvers were generously donated by the Hampshire Forest Partnership, and we’d like to extend a huge thank you to Ringwood Actions for Climate Emergency (RACE against time) for funding the next set of trees. Your support is making a real difference as the avenue of trees takes shape.

Keep an eye out as the planting progresses and imagine how these majestic elms will look in a few years’ time, thriving and enriching the landscape for generations to come.
