Last Saturday saw the launch of an exciting programme of summer activities at the Town Council’s brand new youth facility “The Place”.
With paint still drying on the walls young people could not be put off any longer and it was decided to push ahead with the activities which will continue for the next 3 weeks.
The new building costing more than £500,000 has been extremely well equipped and will be the focal point for all young people’s services in the town for the future.
The Town Council’s Youth Worker Jenny Critchlow said ‘this facility has been a long time coming and I hope the young people of the town will be proud of it and proud of themselves after they raised £5000 towards the building’.
Designed to create a number of opportunities for young people the building comes equipped with fully fitted kitchen, including; pizza oven, slush machine, panini grill and espresso machine.
In the main hall are plasma TV, Xbox, pool table, table tennis, soft seating and the all important, Wifi.
The Mayor of Ringwood Councillor Michael Thierry said ‘the town has lagged behind in youth provision in the past, but now we have a brand new facility which I hope will help inspire young people and demonstrate the value we place in them. I hope to see Ringwood start to lead the county in its support and provision for young people’.
The Town Council has a summer programme of activities arranged and will be providing health clinics and job search support at the new facility in the future.
The youth worker is eager to hear from any organisation working with young people who might like to make use of the facility and would like to attract more volunteers to assist at The Place to support young people.
