At last night’s Council meeting, the Town Mayor presented a Grant Aid cheque of £1,000 to Mr Chris Wood of the Save Fridays Cross Clock Fund. (pictured above)

2 High Street was built around 1730 and the clock was fitted around 1800. The shop was originally a clockmakers and has spent most of its days as a clock/ watch makers or jewellers.

Renovators visited the site, and discovered the clock face is not the original, which may be behind the current face, and looking at the old photos of the site it is clearly a black face with raised gold leaf numbers.

Mr Wood, the owner of the property, took it upon himself to raise the funds required to renovate the clock to its original appearance and to working order.  He now has all funds in place and hopes that the restoration will be complete by the end of June.

Cllr Ford also presented a cheque to Mr Wood for an amount of £500 from her District Councillor Annual Fund, and said that she was delighted to have been able to support such a worthy cause.
