Thousands of people filled the streets of Ringwood on Sunday to enjoy an afternoon of celebration and sing Happy Birthday to Her Majesty.

Hosting a table of seventeen 90 year old guests The Mayor of Ringwood Councillor Michael Thierry opened the giant street party and immediately got crowds to join in with the singing of the National Anthem and Happy Birthday.

Councillor Thierry said ‘I am immensely proud of our town and our residents. I do believe Ringwood to be the jewel in the crown of the New Forest. The special day was only made possible by the energy, planning and driving force which is to be found in the Town Clerk, Steve Nash. Without the organising ability of Steve and his team, and I mention Mandy Oldfield, from the Town Council, I doubt we would have ever had a street party’.

Top Table guests were treated to a selection of food and drink, a gift provided by a local business, a certificate of attendance and souvenir programme, along with one of 3000 cupcakes that were given away free to everyone on the day.

street-party2Entertainment included Ringwood and Burley Band, a Rock Choir of 200, street entertainers, including dance celebrity Theo who dances with well known dance group Diversity. Fair rides, ice cream and food stands along with high street shops made sure there was something for everyone and the weather held until 6pm.

Organiser Mandy Oldfield said ‘it was the best day ever and I am totally amazed by the number of people that attended and the wonderful atmosphere that was evident there and it would not have been possible without all the wonderful volunteers who helped on the day’.

Ringwood Town Council would like to say a big thank you to staff and to the 100 volunteers that came to help set up the event from Churches Together in Ringwood and Fordingbridge Air Cadets with a very special thank you to Pastor Adam Skirton who coordinated those volunteers.

The event was also supported by Ringwood Freemasons, Councillor Steve Rippon-Swaine, Councillor Christine Ford, Cedar Vets of Ringwood, Elliotts, Donaldson Ross & Co, Armfield, Ashtons, Waitrose, Multi-Signs, Sainsbury’s, Solent Coaches, Co-operative Funeral Services, The Co-operative Petrol in Ringwood, Abacus Van Hire, Burley’s Home Care, Travis Perkins, and Herbert H Drew & Son Ltd.
