“Her Majesty The Queen has given outstanding service to the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth for over sixty years. The Town Council believes most strongly that this service to the country should be properly recognised and we have been consulting with local organisations and individuals within Ringwood to identify the best way that this could be celebrated”, said Cllr Barbara Woodifield, Chairman of the Town Council’s Diamond Jubilee Working Party.
“Those consultations have led us to believe that the Town Council should support as wide a celebration of the Diamond Jubilee across the whole town as can possibly be achieved, rather than holding one single event in one location. We are therefore encouraging our residents to hold street parties as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations and in support of those community events, the Town Council will provide, free of charge, street party packs containing bunting, flags and balloons to organisers of street parties within Ringwood”.
The Town Council was also pleased to note that Ringwood Scouts are looking at the possibility of taking part in the national scheme to light beacons as part of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Any persons who are interested in organising street parties, should contact Christine Smith at the Town Council’s Offices, ‘Greenways’, 71 Christchurch Road on 01425 473883 or email town.council@ringwood.gov.uk |
