Prams on the road, cars on the path

This page was last updated on Friday, November 4, 2011

parking problems on the Southampton RoadSouthampton Road, adjoining Carvers Recreation Ground, is covered by a Traffic Regulation Order which prohibits parking at any time.

This road is the main access into the Town Centre and over the A31 from Poulner.

The No Parking restriction not only covers the road itself, but also the adjoining footpath.

It is imperative that both the road and footpath are kept clear of parked vehicles in order to ensure the safety of road users and pedestrians.

“Inconsiderate drivers parking on the grass verge outside Carvers Recreation Ground with parts of their vehicles overhanging the footpath are forcing mums and dads with prams and pushchairs, as well as the elderly, onto the busy Southampton Road” said Cllr Brian Terry, Town Mayor of Ringwood.

“As the days get shorter and early mornings and early evenings get darker, this illegal parking on the pavements exacerbates the position and puts mothers, fathers, young children and the elderly in serious danger.

We have therefore formally asked the District Council to enforce the Traffic Regulation Order in all cases where a vehicle obstructs the footpath in Southampton Road.”
