It is with great sadness that the Town Council announces the passing on Christmas Day of Councillor Nigel Clarke following a long illness.
He had represented Ringwood North on the Town Council for ten years.
Nigel also served as the County Councillor for Ringwood for four years until 2009.
"Nigel was one of those exemplary Councillors who could read the most complicated Government Consultation Paper, understand it and formulate a considered response.
He saved fellow Councillors, like myself, an enormous amount of time in trying to understand those Government documents and helped the Council to submit sensible comments to the Government," said Town Mayor, Councillor Christine Ford.
"He was an exceptional Chairman of our Planning Committee and understood that whilst the character of the town should be maintained, this should not be at the expense of stifling progress.
We will sorely miss him."
His funeral, with no flowers requested, will be at Bournemouth Crematorium at 2.00 pm on Thursday 13th January, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Conservative Club, Ringwood.
If you wish to make a donation in memory of Nigel, a cheque made payable to Cancer Research UK may be sent to funeral directors:
