At last night’s Council meeting, awards were presented to the winners of the 2010 Allotment Competition.
Mr Robin Atack, Chairman of Ringwood Gardening Club reported that the Club looked forward every year to judging the allotments.
They had been very pleased by the standard this year, particularly as judging took place during a very dry period.
Five judges had initially scored plots using common guidelines on general condition, space utilisation, pest control and number of varieties grown.
The top plots were then reassessed by all judges on the overall quality of produce.
The Deputy Town Mayor, Cllr Brian Terry thanked members of the Ringwood Gardening Club and Mr Norman Light for their assistance in judging the allotments.
Cllr Terry presented the awards and congratulated tenants on their hard work and dedication.
The winners were as follows:
Hightown Road site
1st Plot 3 Mr Evans
Runner Up Plot 4 Mr Bettle
Mini Plots
1st Plot HRM 16 Mr Boshoff
Runner Up Plot HRM 7 Mr & Mrs Hough
Southampton Road site
1st Plot 19 Mr Bateman
Runner Up Plot 17 Mrs Gulliver
Upper Kingston site
1st Plot 3A Mr Brawn
Runner Up Plot 29A Mr Masterman
Mr Atack commented that the overall winner, Mr Kevin Brawn, had scored maximum points and his produce would not have looked out of place on an RHS show bench.
