What can a computer do for me? Plus - WIN A PC!
This page was last updated on Thursday, May 13, 2010 11:59 AM

Glasses on a keyboard Recent government statistics show that over 10 million people in the UK have never used the internet. The vast majority of this number are senior citizens.

Silver Surfer week is a nationwide campaign to show older people why it is worth venturing online. As part of this, Greyfriars Community Centre in Ringwood is organising a fun 'jamboree' for those with or without a computer on Tues 18th May (10-1). Visitors to the event could even win a computer to get themselves started!

Two very special guests will be attending in order to show it is possible for anyone to learn how to use a computer.

No big clues as to who they are, but one is guaranteed to ‘know nothing’ so you will see how even he can email and surf the web!

Computers are everywhere these days. ‘www dot this… download that… see our blog… listen to the podcast…’ It is bewildering, isn’t it? Some people feel slightly frustrated at being left out if they cannot get online to do these things.

Well, Greyfriars is hoping to demystify the world of computers for those who feel they have had enough of being excluded. Why should you be left out of the ‘digital revolution’ simply because techno-bods seem to want to talk in a different language?

It promises to be a great event, so please do come along, even if you only have a passing interest in buying a computer. In fact, you can find out how you don’t even need to buy one to learn how to use one.
