Saturday the 17th, the sun is shining and a perfect time for toddlers to visit the play facilities at Carvers Recreation Ground.
Unfortunately but for the eagle eyes of the Town Council’s groundsmen who start litter picking at 6.30 am on Saturdays it could also have meant a visit to A & E for youngsters using the free spirit run around space allocated for toddlers adjoining the play area at Carvers Recreation Ground.
‘Within the last 24 hours some kind souls have spread over 100 four inch lengths of barbed wire, some rusty saw blades and small pieces of glass bottles (of a type not normally found at Carvers) in this ground. These items have clearly been distributed with the aim of injuring users of the area.’ said Terry Simpson the Town Clerk. ‘This is nothing more than mindless, malicious vandalism intended to cause injury to users of the area who just happen to be toddlers’.
A finger tip search has been carried out by groundstaff and the play area cleared to make it safe for use.
The police have visited the site and a reward is being offered for information leading to any conviction.
