“I am absolutely delighted,” said Councillor Jeremy Heron, Chairman of the Town Council’s Policy & Finance Committee, “we had always decided that, in the current economic climate, we should only be looking to maintain services and not increase our expenditure, except for health and safety reasons or where equipment has worn out and failure to replace would affect operational efficiency.
Over the past three months we have been looking carefully at all our expenditure items and, as a result, even allowing for an increase in our grant budget to help voluntary and charitable organisations, we have been able to achieve a Precept for the Town Council of £386,260.
This equates to an increase in the Council tax of only £1.28 per year for a Band D property or, in other words, a 1.85% increase in our expenditure.” |
