As the saying goes “I like it when a plan comes together” says Cllr Brian Terry, Chairman of Recreation, Leisure & Open Spaces.
As an experiment we decided to offer eight mini allotment plots, as featured in BBC’s South Today programme.
The take-up has been so good that we have had to double that number and it seems more people really just want a small vegetable patch.
That has meant we have been able to take more people from our waiting list and give them the chance to grow their own.
The Town Council’s allotment waiting list for residents means that there is nobody actively waiting on the list that applied prior to May 2009 and proves the success of trying something different by offering small plots. |
