Lots of water and lots of countryside, but we can’t see either and we can’t get to either’ was the common thought of Ringwood residents, despite the fact that the town is set deep in the Avon Valley.
One of the main demands heard when the Town Council consulted for the preparation of its Town Plan was for access to the Mill Stream and views across the countryside beyond the Mill Stream.
“At long last,” said Councillor Brian Terry, Chairman of the Town Council’s Recreation Committee, “we are able to fulfil the residents’ dreams.
After years of planning, part of the Bickerley, now known as the Danny Cracknell Pocket Park, which adjoins the Mill Stream and overlooks an area of special scientific interest is to be developed as a town park for Ringwood residents to enjoy the natural surroundings of the countryside.”
The park will include a user friendly footpath leading down to the water’s edge for access for the disabled in wheelchairs.
The bank of the Mill Stream will be strengthened with revetments and reed beds to make the area safer for young children.
Some of the vegetation and shrubs on the riverbank will be removed to provide views across the meadows to the south.
Bird and insect boxes will be provided with additional wild flower planting and seats for visitors.
