Operation Alvine: Fatal road traffic collision on the A338

Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision on the A338 between Ringwood and Fordingbridge near Ellingham crossroads.

 

At approximately 6.55am this morning, Saturday, September 27, a Wilts and Dorset double decker bus, travelling towards Fordingbridge, was in collision with a Ford Escort, travelling towards Ringwood.

 

The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The driver of the bus, a man in his 40s, sustained serious, but not life threatening injuries, and was taken to Salisbury District Hospital.

 

Two passengers on the bus were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

 

The next of kin of the deceased have been informed. We will not be in a position to release further details of the car driver until formal identification procedures have been completed.

 

The road is expected to remain closed for several hours at least. Further details of road closures can be heard on a previous message.
