| Opening of the new map boards |
As a result of concerns raised by visitors, residents and local traders about the lack of signs within the town centre, the Town Plan Partnership Steering Group invited Mr Roger Bettle to lead a Signage Project Group to review deficiencies and come up with proposals for improvements.
The Project Group has been meeting regularly to identify needs and is continuing to work hard to deliver new signs.
The first of the signs to be installed are 5 map boards in and around the Furlong Car Park.
These will show visitors to the town where the shopping areas are and include details of other things to see and do in and around the town to encourage them to stay longer or come back and visit again.
The boards include illustrations of parts of the town drawn by local artist Geoff Bartlett and a new town centre map created by Walking Distance, who also designed the boards.

They are encased in hardwood frames on oak posts, befitting the character of the town.
The boards have been funded by Ringwood Town Council and New Forest District Council.
The Project Group has also been working on an improved pedestrian signing scheme for the town, so the map boards will act as a starting point for new pedestrian signs that will direct visitors to where they want to go. |
