‘We have lost a colleague, friend and hard working councillor who will be sorely missed’ said Councillor Brian Terry, Mayor of Ringwood Town Council, following the funeral of the late Councillor Malcolm Daly at a packed St Peters and St Pauls Parish Church, Ringwood on 29th February.
Malcolm had passed away aged 62 on the 19th February after a long illness. He had been appointed to the Town Council in April 2005 from which time he served on the Recreation, Leisure & Open Spaces; Planning, Town and Environment; and Policy and Finance Committees.
Malcolm was elected Vice Chairman of the Recreation Committee in 2006 and Chairman of that Committee in May 2007.
He believed passionately in sport and was in the forefront of the proposals for the Town Council’s sports development programme to provide improved facilities for all age groups in the town.
Malcolm had a life-long involvement in cricket, having played for Ringwood every season for the past 45 years and was currently serving as Chairman of Ringwood Cricket Club.
He was also an avid follower of Formula 1 motor racing. Away from sport Malcolm was a bon viveur, enjoyer of life and had a passion for Greece and was a fluent Greek speaker.
He was a Freemason and briefly a Rotarian and after retiring from his career at BAT became Secretary of Ringwood Conservative Club. Malcolm came from a Ringwood family of four children; two sisters survive him.
