Jeremy Heron has been elected as district councillor for Ringwood South.
The by-election, called because of the death of the ward’s former representative Cllr Danny Cracknell, had a 23.25% turnout.
The votes cast yesterday (Thursday, June 19) were:

Cllr Heron’s success increases the Conservative party’s majority on the 60-seat district council from 45 to 46; the Liberal Democrats have 14 seats.
Cllr Jeremy Heron is well known in local government circles, having been a member from May 1999 until May 2007. He held two district council portfolios at different times during his term of office: he was firstly the crime and disorder portfolio holder, and latterly held what was the economy and planning portfolio.
Jeremy is the brother of Cllr Edward Heron, who represents the Downlands and Forest ward on the district council, and who is the environment portfolio holder.
