Several years ago, the Town Council identified the need for lighting to be installed alongside the public footpath that crosses Carvers Recreation Ground, to improve the safety of pedestrians and help address issues of crime and disorder that have been experienced in the area.
With the full support of the local Police Safer Neighbourhood Team, the Council set about securing funding to deliver the scheme.
The route across Carvers has been included in the Walking and Cycling Master Plan for the town and it is intended that it will become part of a safe walking and cycling route to the town centre and southern parts of the town.
In order to take a step towards this goal, Hampshire County Council agreed to fund the installation of seven lights to light the entire length of the footpath.
Following consultation with local residents, the lights are now in place and a new safe route has been created for pedestrians to use after dark. |
