At Ringwood Town Council’s meeting on 27 June, the Town Mayor, Councillor Brian Terry, was pleased to present grant cheques for two very contrasting but equally important activities in the town.
He presented a cheque for £2500 to the Friends of the Meeting House Association towards essential repairs and refurbishment works to the Meeting House, which had been constructed in 1727 by a group of non-conformist Presbyterians.
The Association had applied unsuccessfully for Lottery Grant for the renovations and it is hoped that with the Town Council’s small contribution and additional professional advice now being provided by the District Council, Lottery Grant could well be made available to the project.
As well as protecting the past, the Town Council is funding the full cost of the rental of a market stall area once a month in the Market Place to provide a base for Ringwood police to give a greater presence in the town centre and make them more available to the public.
In presenting both cheques, Councillor Terry emphasised how important the Meeting House was to the history of the town and the police presence is to provide a safe future for residents and visitors alike.
