Sealed Knot at The Bickerley 2006
Sealed Knot at The Bickerley 2006
Ringwood Festival committee released plans for the 2007 Town Festival this week, with a proposal to stage a huge “It’s a Knockout” type event on the Bickerley on Saturday the 7th of July.  “The fire brigade have offered to help pump water to make certain we splash out in style” said organiser Howard Cox. “We will be taking applications from teams who wish to take part shortly and expect a very quick take-up of the available places. ”

Festival week will also include, on Festival Day, July 14th, a spectacular team display of “Field Gun Running”, from Portsmouth Action, a group made up of ex-field gunners and civilians who have revived the Naval tradition, which ended officially in 1999. There will also be a classical concert with a nautical theme, in the parish church on the same evening.

On Sunday 8th July, the town will step back in time for a drive past by the Wessex Transport Society in a selection of veteran and vintage vehicles. A shuttle bus will be provided from the town to their rally at Avon Heath Country Park.

Throughout the week, there will be music from all sides of the spectrum; from a Battle of the Bands for the teenagers, through to swing jazz and a glamorous revue linking the music of Cole Porter with that of Noel Coward led by local musician and performer Celia Cologne.

Committee Chairman and Mayor of Ringwood, Cllr Danny Cracknell, pointed out that “There will also be street performances, plenty for the little ones to see and do, stalls and free music. “Last year’s Sealed Knot event was a big hit with the town, and we are hoping to make the Festival even better this year. It’s a wonderful opportunity for local people to get together and celebrate what a great place Ringwood is to live.”
