Officers from the Safer Streets Team will be out in force on Tuesday, October 31 to ensure that the Halloween celebrations do not cause an inconvenience to residents.

They will be working in partnership with the Acceptable Behaviour Officer, the Youth Offending Team and the Crime Prevention Design Advisor.

The operation will form part of the Safer Streets initiative and will focus on local ‘hot spots’. These areas have been identified from the volume of calls received from nearby residents about Halloween celebrations in previous years.

High-visibility police patrols will deal robustly with any offenders whose actions are criminal or anti-social. Offenders will be arrested or receive fixed penalty notices.

‘Trick or Treaters’ are asked to respect those residents who do not wish to take part in the celebrations, especially if the person lives alone or has young children who could be easily frightened.

If the Hampshire Constabulary poster which requests that the residents are not called upon is displayed at a property, ‘Trick or Treaters’ are asked to respect their wishes.

Local Shops are also displaying posters, reminding shoppers that eggs or flour will not be sold to young people in the days leading up to Tuesday, October 31. This is to discourage youths who may use them to cause distress by throwing eggs and flour at people, property or vehicles.

Parents with small children who want to celebrate Halloween are encouraged to consider arranging in advance with neighbours who will be called on.

Parents of older children are asked to remind them to act responsibly. Anti-social behaviour can cause unnecessary calls to the police, generating a response which could be best directed elsewhere.

The Safer Street Team would like to wish everyone a happy Halloween, but ensure the celebration is safe by acting responsibly.
