“Be involved or do not moan about the outcome!” says Councillor Brian Terry as Ringwood Town Council launches its Market Towns Healthcheck with the delivery of a leaflet to every household in Ringwood within the next two weeks. The leaflet clearly explains why the Council has decided to instigate this process of community consultation which will lead to the publication of Ringwood Town Plan for the future of the town over the next 5, 10, 15, 20 years.
The Town Plan will provide a blueprint for a number of projects designed to tackle the problems and challenges that the town faces in the future. It will be an action plan that will be informed by the community’s expressed desires and wishes.
“The consultation process will gather hard evidence of the issues facing Ringwood’s residents and the solutions in the form of projects that the community wants”, said Chairman of the Town Plan Committee, Councillor Terry. “It will involve working together with individuals, businesses and organisations in the town to ensure that the community’s collective wishes are represented, especially for the Local Development Framework which is currently being prepared by New Forest District Council. We are looking for volunteers with enthusiasm and open minds to help us with this task. This is all about what the people of Ringwood want for their future and for their young people.”
Ringwood, along with many other towns, is facing difficult issues of lack of affordable housing for local people as well as economic challenges on the High Street. Local businesses are squeezed for space and some are having to consider relocation instead of being able to expand because of planning restrictions. There is also extensive development planned for Bournemouth, Poole and East Dorset and this is bound to have an impact on Ringwood in terms of housing, transportation infrastructure and amenities.
The process will be divided into five areas; Economy, Environment, Transport & Accessibility, Community & Social, and Young People. If you have an interest in being involved in this exciting initiative, please contact Ros Bowles, the Town Council’s Project Officer who has been specifically employed by the Council to bring the community’s views together to form the Town Plan.
