Police in Ringwood are appealing for information following an attempted robbery at a Waitrose supermarket in Ringwood.

The incident happened between 12.10 and 12.20pm on Friday, December 15 at the store in The Furlong.

A 63 year old woman was shopping in the supermarket when she turned around to find a man holding her handbag, which he had removed from her trolley.

The woman got the handbag back but the man would not let go and put his hand up to her face, pushing her away.

She shouted to other shoppers that the man was trying to steal her bag. At this point the man ran away leaving the bag behind.

The woman sustained a minor injury to her finger.
The man is described as:
  • White
  • 25-30 years old
  • 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall
  • Light brown, wiry hair.
  • Wearing a sleeveless jacket, cream coloured long sleeved top and blue jeans.

Police Constable Helen Roberts of Ringwood police station said: This incident took place in a busy supermarket, we would like to hear from anyone who saw what happened.”

PC Roberts added: “In particular we would like to speak to the person who saw a man acting suspiciously by a blue coloured car in the car park and reported this to staff at Waitrose.”
