| After presenting the awards to the winners and runners up of Ringwood Town Council’s annual Allotment Competition at this week’s Council Meeting, Councillor Norman Light, Chairman of the Recreation, Leisure & Open Spaces Committee was heard to observe that the ladies of the town appeared to have won over the judges for the second time in three years as more ladies were winning prizes and the overall winner was again a lady.
The Competition was judged as in previous years by Ringwood Garden Club and, in presenting an assessment of the standards achieved, Colin Fryer commented that not only was the standard of cultivation very high, but also a wider benefit was being obtained by allotment holders.
While some grew magnificent vegetables, others allocated part of their plots to wild flowers to encourage insect life and others turned their plots into extensions of their gardens and concentrated on flower growing.
