Opening hours
Open: Daily from 8:00am - 4.30pm
Most sites have standard opening times of 8am-7pm between 1 April and 30 September, and 8am-4pm between 1 October and 31 March. A small number of sites operate different opening hours (please see back page), so you should contact these sites in advance to check.

Busy periods
The HWRCs tend to be busier at weekends, particularly during the summer. To avoid long queues, especially at the smaller sites, you should consider visiting during the week or making use of the longer opening hours in summer.

Temporary closures
The smaller, older sites have limited space, so they have to be temporarily closed for health and safety reasons whilst lorries are changing the bins. This usually takes no more than about 20 minutes. Site staff may also temporarily close individual bins, so that the contents can be packed down to fit more items in.

Sales areas
Site staff are encouraged to recycle or reuse as much waste as possible. They are permitted to sell on any suitable objects, and are incentivised to do so to generate additional income. Certain items are banned from direct sale to the public by Trading Standards, including untested electrical items, children’s car seats, and bicycle helmets.

Pro-Grow
All green waste collected is taken to one of three composting sites in Hampshire, and turned into Pro-Grow – high quality soil and lawn conditioners, woodchip mulch or pine bark. This can be bought at every HWRC.

Site regulations
HWRCs are for household waste only. Commercial, trade or industrial waste is not permitted. Occasionally, site staff may ask you to sign a disclaimer form to confirm that the waste is from your own household. Infectious or offensive waste will not be accepted.

Health and safety
• Children and animals must stay in the vehicle at all times. • Be aware of vehicle movements and/or people moving bulky items. • Never lob items into a bin as staff may be working within it.
• If you need guidance or assistance, please ask the site staff. |
